Three years ago I set up an AOAC group on Facebook. It's got 187 members, 936 photos and 3 videos to date. I never really thought about whether it might be useful to the AOAC.

That was then, this is now. I've created a Facebook page for the club, which will replace the Facebook group in due course. The difference between a page and a group is quite subtle; to the user they look almost the same, except you're invited to like a page and join a group. The page manager sees a few more features, we're still exploring these and trying to figure out whether they might be useful!

Our plan is to use Facebook to recruit new members to the club. We're not planning to use Facebook to run the club, so members who don't use Facebook won't miss out on anything official.

The Facebook page also features on the front page of this web site, so when you upload a photo to the Facebook Page it will appear on our web site. This is an easy way to stock our web site with new photos.

We'd love lots of AOAC members to like our page and to post occasional comments and especially photos to it. We may import the photos to this web site and/or use them in our weekly email newsletter. Remember that the Facebook page is not restricted to AOAC members - anybody can view it, 'like' it and write on the wall - so it's absolutely not the place for organising events or sharing personal details. As this Facebook page is aimed at attracting new members to the club we reserve the right to remove any postings which we think may not be helpful!

Our Facebook page is still under development - if you have any comments, questions or suggestions please address them to communications@aoac.co.uk
