Brecon Beacons New Members Weekend, March 2010

Alison Pugh writes:

I’m told by folk that I laugh a lot... hopefully with others or at myself... but then if we’re not cultivating life enjoyable, laugh worthy moments, what are we doing?

My first foray into the world of the AOAC was definitely worthy of being described as one such life enjoyable moment. A cheerful weekend of gusto, with a jolly nice crowd of people.

A combination of warm friendly energy, coupled with a solid, comfortable accommodation choice at The Held bunkhouse, brought together a weekend of thoroughly good banter, in a fabulous setting.

Exploring the beautiful hills of the Brecon Beacons on foot, and for those with mountain biking prowess on two wheels with lots of pedal power provided good activity options, and an interesting mix of people, coordinated by our organised host Roland Allen.

If you’re a new member like I was, who simple enjoys the outdoors and the company of like-minded folk, whilst feeling the need to expel a little energy in doing so, this weekend was well placed to cover and go above and beyond my expectations.

The attached photo sort of sums up the weekend for me better than any words I could craft here, so to summarise: “If in doubt try it out”.

And a footnote from Clare Gundry:

It was indeed a splendid weekend, trotting up and down mountains, or were they high hills.... whatever. There they were, so we climbed them! A picnic on a corrie lake. Kamakaze frogs all over the path and road.... mating to the end, what a way to go!! Gourmet grub cooked in AOAC style - minus the recipe!! Brilliant crowd who all participated to the full. Gave me back the zest for living after a winter of discontent. Cheers Roland.
