New Categories on the Forum

A new facility has been added to the AOAC forum which makes it much easier and more rewarding to use. You no longer have to keep logging in to see if there is anything that interests you! New categories have been added - at the moment for Adventure Racing and Canoeing. Anyone can post or start a new thread within that category.

But here's the neat trick. If you are interested in a thread - say "Wednesday Evening Training for AR", all you need do after opening the thread or post is click on "Notify" on the menu alongside Post, Reply etc. If anyone posts on that thread - say a change of venue or time, or a question, you will be e-mailed....so you dont have  to keep taking a peek.

This could be a welcome tool for anyone organising an activity or weekend. If they start a thread under their category, and those going use the "Notify" option, then a last-minute cancellation - as happened with the punting recently - would be instantly mailed out - whereas posting just as News might not reach members. It also saves organisers having to manually add all the e-addresses of everyone on their weekends.

[To clarify: you can subscribe to both threads and boards. A thread is a topic within a board. eg, "Last Call for Ace Race, 11 August" within "Adventure Racing". If you subscribe (ie, notify) to a thread you will get notified of new posts with only that thread. If you subscribe to a board you will get notified of new threads within that board. You probably want the second option - Mark]
