AOAC Ski Trip 2011

Every year, club members take themselves off for a week long skiing/snowboarding extravaganza – one of the most popular trips of the year, the AOAC ski trip is definitely not to be missed! Everyone is welcome, from complete beginners to experts.

For 2011, the AOAC Ski Trip will be:

Club Hotel De Verbier
Hotel de Verbier, Verbier
5th February - 12th February 2011
approx £840 with local pass, £860 with 4 valleys lift pass (await next years lift pass prices to confirm)

This year, we have managed to secure a fabulous 4* hotel, Hotel de Verbier in Verbier, Switzerland. Situated in the heart of Verbier just 5 minutes walk to the Medran lift, this is a very popular rustic-style hotel. Its friendly and relaxed atmosphere provides a warm welcome for all guests and is close to all the resort facilities. The Chalet Hotel is in the centre of Verbier, on the Place Centrale right next door to the Tourist Office and close to many of the local bars and nightlife.

Verbier is one of Switzerland's best known and most popular resorts. Home to the rich and famous, as well as being a vast ski area, Verbier Ski Resort is set high on a Swiss mountainside, spanning over four valleys and offering great panoramic views. The village is in a sunny, south - facing bowl. Skiing in Verbier is suitable for all levels but in particular more advanced skiers and is located two hours drive from Geneva Airport and only one hour from Sion Airport. Verbier Ski Resort is linked by lifts to neighbouring Thyon, Veysonnaz and Nendaz, and together they form the Four Valleys. Accommodation in Verbier is varied and the resort is built in traditional chalet style boasting plenty of sports shops, boutiques, bars, restaurants and cafés. Renowned for its thriving nightlife which goes on though until the early hours, those who visit Verbier looking to enjoy the après ski will not be disappointed! Many events take place throughout the season including the O'Neill Xtreme Freeride contest and the Carlsberg High Five multi sports competition.

Check out the hotel on the Inghams Website.

Because of a huge hike (around 30%) in the Euro rate a year or two ago, the trip is rather more expensive than some previous years (as also experienced last year). However, the ski committee have managed to get an amazing deal of this 4* hotel in a fantastic resort for a massive discount off the list price. The price of £860 is inclusive of the full area lift pass (a lower cost option of £840 is available for a local lift pass). As in previous years ski hire, ski carriage and insurance are not included in the price.
