Code of Conduct

Avon Outdoor Activities Club Code of Conduct

Introduction

This code of conduct covers how members of Avon Outdoor Activities Club (“the Club”) should act when participating in any activity organised by the Club. The code is a summary of the basic principles of decency, manners and common sense that the Club would expect from all its members. Some activities may have additional rules or codes of conduct, and members are asked to respect them.

A breach of this code of conduct will be considered “unsatisfactory conduct” under clause 5.5 of the Club’s constitution, and hence may result in the termination of a member’s membership.

The Code

All members must treat both other members and any non members involved in a Club activity with respect and courtesy. Treat others as you would expect to be treated by them.

The Club is run on a voluntary basis by members who give their time freely. No one is paid for their work for the club. Members should respect this in their behaviour towards other members, particularly when dealing with those who are organising an activity and when dealing with Committee members.

The Club has earned a good reputation and in order to maintain it participants in Club activities must behave responsibly and comply with the law. This means, for example, ensuring that there is no behaviour which may be perceived as unreasonable or infringing public decency. Members must not behave in such a way that the club might be brought into disrepute through their actions.

Members should not harass or intimidate others. Prohibited behaviour includes, but is not limited to, the following:
- Sexual harassment
- Intimidation
- Physical or verbal threats.
- Acts of Violence
- Fraud
- Aggravation (intentionally engaging in or inciting participants and/or fellow members to engage in abusive or violent action).

Members must not behave in a reckless or negligent manner such that their behaviour causes damage to facilities or equipment belonging to other members or to third parties. Any member behaving in such a way will be personally liable to pay for repairs.

Under no circumstances should members participate in any activity whilst under the influence of illegal drugs.

If you are uncertain about anything in this code of conduct please contact a committee member for clarification.
